The Verona Fire Department has reactivated its auxiliary department as a result of a large interest among the high school students. Since 2003, the department has seen many new faces, most of which has decided to move up to the regular department
Another issue in the regular department was the genuine interest in volunteering among students, both at home and away at college, who could not fulfill the requirements associated with the regular department. As a result, the auxiliary department also serves as a method of helping those members
Today, the auxiliary department is currently seeking those who are interested under the age of 18, as well as those who are unable to fulfill membership requirements while attending a full time educational institution.
Auxiliary members train and perform side-by-side with the regular membership, with no charge to the auxiliary member. They also take part in all community and department events and functions. Training and response to calls are NOT required of the member (although a reasonable amount of interest must be displayed). Auxiliary members do not directly fight fires however auxiliaries perform other vital functions on and off the fire ground.
The requirements for membership are as follows: Verona Residents ages 16-18 or full time students attending college.
All new auxiliary members, if they wish, can receive training by the Verona
Fire Department and can go to any state authorized Fire academy at no cost to
the member.
